Are you in a desert?
Does it seem you are having “one of those days” not just today but just about every day lately?
Maybe it is not you but a friend of yours that is in a “desert” time of their lives when life is filled with many difficulties, even feeling alone and forgotten perhaps.
You need to know, God sees you.
He will not leave you there but will send people to show the way out.Be looking and listening for directions.
I love to cook. I find it fascinating
how I can take a few simple ingredients, put them together, and make something unbelievably
delicious. In fact, ever since I was a
young woman I began collecting cook books because of the potential they offered
me. The possibilities are endless to
what the tongue can taste and treasure.
Now, don't get me wrong, the opportunity to please the tongue is indeed a fulfilling endeavor, but the joys to be had go far beyond that. What I or anyone else makes has the potential to not just satisfy the longings of the taste buds, but to meet the true vital needs of another.
With what we are making we might not be just bringing a smile to a thankful face, but we might be gloriously bringing relief to the unseen pain of hunger. What we serve up can meet both wants and needs. it is powerful!
A DAY IN THE MAKING is similar to cooking, but food may not necessarily be involved, and it is the heart, mind, and soul I am aiming to awaken rather than the stomach.
Like cooking, the first thing I do is collect a variety of "ingredients". But what I am collecting is not from my pantry. What I am gathering together are various words, facts, thoughts, and ideas.
For example,
perhaps that day is a holiday, or maybe I discover an event that happened on
that particular day in history; I gather these “ingredients” together.
After taste
testing my finds, I select a little of this and a little of that and then lovingly
mix them together. My aim is to make something scrumptious that I can chew on through out he day, as well as be able to serve it up for the delight of those around me.
Some days what I have made might simply bring a smile to a face. Others, it might hit an unseen place of deep hunger within a needy heart.
Either way, I hope that after being fed at the table of A DAY IN THE MAKING one can say with satisfaction, “Ah, that was good!”, and then rise to use my recipe to feed and love on other!
Happy Making,
Happy New Year!
I don’t know about you, but I am ready for an adventurous new year! I am ready to see what I have not yet seen. I am ready to live in such a way that I can experience fresh joys that fill me so completely it splashes out and overflows onto others.
Can you relate?
As you enter this New Year, don’t you want to make sure you are not
merely alive, lifelessly going through the necessary motions so to fulfill the
demands of each day, but instead actually purposefully and joyfully living and loving?
What if you could take the simple things within
the constraints of any given day and make it into something special? That is what I want. I
don’t want to escape my day but instead I want to use the ordinary things contained
within it and make it thought provoking, make it fun and memorable,
make it into not only a better day but a better me...and still accomplish everything I needed to.
Each day is a gift from God full of intriguing mysteries
and priceless treasures ready to be discovered and shine forth if one ventures in close enough to see.
I want to see! I'm moving in and opening my eyes and tuning my ears. Let the adventure begin! I invite you to come along with me on this journey as I unwrap each unique day. A journey, after all, is much more fun with friends.

When I think of people from long ago setting out on new journeys, I know they would take journals along with them so they could capture the thoughts and details of the trip that they wanted to remember. I'm going to do the same. Although many spectacular journals are readily available at the store, I have decided to go the thrifty route and just make my own. A simple composition book is perfect and it costs under a dollar. I have plenty of scrap booking paper around that I can use to decorate it. If you would like to make one too, here is how I did it!.
~
A JOURNAL IN THE MAKING
1. FOR THE OUTSIDE If you don't already have one, purchase a standard composition book. I got this one at Target and it was under a dollar.
4. All three edges are now folded.
5. Cut off any excess paper of the long flap, leaving about an inch or two for the tape to adhere to.
You may have noticed that the front of my journal is a bit plain. Feel free to decorate yours. I did not decorate mine yet because I am going to do so with things that I discover as I journey through the days ahead.
For now though, it's time to sit down, open it up, and began writing down my hopes, dreams and goals for this coming year. ~
